Mix the cottage cheese, eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder, and vanilla.
The dough will become sticky — THAT'S PERFECTLY FINE!
Divide the mixture into 25 equal pieces.
Place a sour cherry in each piece and shape into small balls.
Fry the doughnuts at medium temperature in hot oil until they turn golden brown.
(IF THE OIL IS TOO HOT, THE DOUGHNUTS WILL BE BROWNED ON THE OUTSIDE BUT RAW ON THE INSIDE).
Remove from the oil, roll in powdered sugar, and enjoy warm or cold.
