These are the fruits of the sour cherry tree, having a dark red (cherry) color and round shape, with a moderately sized pit inside. This low-calorie product contains vitamins A, B, C, EE, PP, a large amount of phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, potassium, as well as mineral salts of metals such as copper, manganese, iron, chromium, zinc, etc. Additionally, sour cherries contain chlorogenic acid and a particularly valuable hormone for health called melatonin. Sour cherries can be consumed fresh (raw), preserved or dried. Various compotes, juices, syrups, jams, preserves, liqueurs, jellies, kvass, cordials and wines can be made from them.
